Some of our favorite cruises throughout the year are our specialty cruises! And our Valentine’s Day Cruise might just be the best one! We offer 4 Valentine’s themed cruises, a sweetheart luncheon cruise during the day Saturday, on the Southern Belle Riverboat. The riverboat has 2 beautiful Valentine’s Dinner cruises that evening, and then of course the day of Valentine’s Day we’ll have an awesome romantic cruise through downtown Chattanooga on the TN River!
My best friend Phil, his birthday is in the first week of February, moved to Huntsville to open a physical therapy clinic and left me behind in Chattanooga to suffer with our beautiful mountains and the best riverboat cruises in the US! Well, he cam back to see me and man had a lot of things changed since the last time he was here.
There have always been a ton of things to do in Chattanooga, but Chattanooga has continually grown over the last 2 decades and now we are getting cool weird stuff! Keep Chattanooga Weird! The city has 10 breweries now and they are actually thinking about doing a local beer festival on the Southern Belle Riverboat and having a 4 hour cruise! There a bunch of new things to do in Chattanooga. You’ve always had the big dogs like the Southern Belle Riverboat, Ruby Falls, Rock City and the TN Aquarium, but now you have a huge craft beer, craft cocktails and a big foodie scene in Chattanooga.
Myself, Jonathan Reinert, the kitchen manager, Joe, and the bookkeeper, Jordan all traveled to Seattle for the annual PVA convention at the Washington State Convention Center! The company has never been before, but with a new emphasis on the guest experience on The Southern Belle Riverboat, we had noticed some key note speeches by some very powerful people in the industry and decided we need to hear these speeches come from the best businesses in the field and take some of that knowledge back to our operation.
We drive to the airport Thursday afternoon for our 5:05 pm flight out of BNA to SEA. We arrive at the airport, pay for parking and go to check in our bags. The lady asks for our name and flight number and we tell her and she says I dont see your name, so I pull out my piece of paper and realize that we have driven up an entire day too early! How not one of us noticed or even remembered that our flight wasn’t until Friday I have no idea, maybe it was the excitement of seeing a new city that blinded us. Luckily they had the same flight Thursday and had open seats.
We have been working on our dockside restaurant, The 3rd Deck Burger Bar! This year already we have added 6, 55 inch big screen TV’s, 6 custom made made wooden ping pong tables that double as dining tables for private parties, a brand new awesome wooden dining table that fits 12 ppl, and we repainted 2/3 of the entire bar and grille!
The 3rd deck Burger Bar, home of the best burger in Chattanooga, has a frsh fun new feel to it. It has always been a great place to come hang out with your friends, sit back relax and enjoy a cold beer and some wings! But, now it has a fresh new feel! We have a had a free poker league in the bar for the last 4 years on Mondays and we have now teamed up with Tommy at Chattanooga Sports League and created a beer league in the bar! We have also added a ping pong league on Wednesdays as well that will be played on the custom made wooden ping pong tables!
I’ve driven over Chattanooga’s four bridges too many times to count. The view never gets old. But as much as I’ve admired the Tennessee River from above, I wanted to actually experience it. So I hitched a ride on a riverboat called the Southern Belle.
I boarded the 450-passenger boat on the first day of spring with my 5-year-old daughter. We got lucky with a warm, clear day, and I couldn’t wait to relax on the open-air top deck.

Everything about the experience is authentic to riverboat tradition, including all staff dressed in navy and white “captain” uniforms. Located downtown between the Oligiati and Market Street bridges, the boat is docked at Pier 2 – a former casino boat complete with smokestacks and pressed tin ceilings. It remains stationary, but still hosts its fair share of events on its Grand Chandelier Deck.
